Lanzarote has a coherence and beauty which combine to make the island a cultural and tourist centre. UNESCO has even described the island a World Biosphere Reserve in 1993. Lanzarote is a windy place, especially in July when it is strong and consistent. Lanzarote Spain has an attraction in the form of Timanfaya National Park which is a volcanic landscape. It is said that the landscape has not changed since the time it erupted in the 1730’s and covers over a quarter of the island’s surface. Another major attarction is Montañas del Fuego known as the Mountains of Fire and is located within the park. There is a restaurant as well which provides panoramic views of the park. One can witness the permanent display and audio-visual presentations at the Timanfaya National Park Visitors' Centre. These presentations give an insight to the origin of the island, and the formation of the park due to the volcanic activity.
One chief attraction is the Jameos del Agua which is a volcanic formation formed due to the collapse of an underground lava tunnel which in turn exposes a section of the tunnel to the sky. Located just a little away from the Jameos del Agua is the Cueva de los Verdes known as the ‘Green’s Cave’. Here you can take a guided tour which will take you through a succession of caverns and tunnels. You can stay in luxurious villas in Lanzarote or budget as well as star Lanzarote hotels to experience some of the best culture and festival carnivals. In the carnivals you will find groups that compose their own saucy lyrics or groups who dance to the samba rhythm. |
